Rebuilding Essential Healthcare Services
Borderfree provides the Red Crescent Hospital in Damascus with life-saving equipment and surgical supplies while facilitating the transfer of medical expertise from Switzerland.

The Situation
For thousands of people, the Red Crescent Hospital in Damascus is the only place where they can receive medical care in an emergency. After more than a decade of conflict, however, essential healthcare services are severely restricted. Equipment is outdated, basic supplies are lacking and power cuts are frequent.
The hospital’s doctors treat between 200 and 400 emergency patients every day, with only one functioning ambulance and an emergency department containing just seven beds.
Our Response
Together with our local partner, the surgeon Dr Ali, Borderfree is helping the hospital continue its life-saving work.
For more than five years, Dr Ali has worked tirelessly to restore the hospital’s operating theatres, emergency services and dialysis facilities. We complement his work with targeted deliveries of medical equipment from Switzerland, modern surgical supplies and technical expertise.
In August, thanks to the support of a Swiss foundation, we were able to provide three urgently needed dialysis machines. This represented a major step forward for kidney patients at the hospital and demonstrated how precisely targeted assistance can have an immediate impact.

Why Unrestricted Funding Matters
Conditions at the hospital can change rapidly. Unrestricted donations allow us to respond wherever the need is greatest — flexibly, efficiently and in close coordination with the medical team on the ground.
Together, we are strengthening essential healthcare services in Damascus and creating the conditions people need to regain access to safe and dignified medical treatment.
